Nope, you haven’t stumbled upon a sports blog by mistake. And no, even though football is one of my loves, I’m not here to announce a new direction for this blog, either.
I’m posting today because Coach Spurrier has had enough:
Spurrier says he’ll require those Gamecocks with scooters to wear a helmet or face missing a game. The latest guideline came after first-year tailback Kenny Miles was involved in recent scooter wreck, sustaining bruises and abrasions.
Spurrier told reporters after Wednesday’s practice that those caught riding without a helmet could be suspended.
Spurrier said Miles was OK, but looked like he slid into second base on a paved road.
“Slid into second base on a paved road”? Ouch, I bet that was fun.
Coach Spurrier, I applaud your new interest in riding safety. If any of your players have questions about choosing a properly fitting helmet, you can direct them to this very informative video courtesy of Jay Leno:
And once they’ve picked out a helmet, how about directing them to the nearest rider training center so they can learn some street riding skills? With this being the third crash involving one of your players this year, it sounds like they might need it more than another tip drill.
