The Iron Butt Association’s web site is full of great tips for long distance riders. The very first tip in their Archive of Wisdom is “Know your limits and plan your trip around them.” The jist is that during a long trip, barring weather or other unforeseen circumstances, a rider’s daily mileage will peak during the first couple of days, then steadily decline on days three through seven. On day seven, a rider can expect to ride around 65% of their “peak” mileage.
