I’m thinking about organizing a contest to raise funds for a worthy motorcycling-related cause. Since I can’t seem to do anything halfway when it involves motorcycles, you can be sure that it won’t be your run-of-the-mill riding contest.
Here are the goals I have in mind:
- Participation regardless of geographic location.
- Riders can feel competitive even if they’re not IRON BUTTed.
- Allows for flexible planning: take a day trip, a weekend, or a weeks-long tour.
- Interesting.
- Fun.
I have a pretty good idea of how I’d like this contest to run, but before I commit to anything (i.e. spend any money), I’d love to hear if there’s even interest in a “kinda like a raffle, kinda like a scavenger hunt, kinda like a checkpoint game, kinda like photo tag” contest. I promise it will be fun.
What do you think?

If you’re going to become an instructor, Grasshopper, you won’t have time for such stuff! I mean, you did say you weren’t one to do anything half way, didn’t you? Maybe your scavenger hunt could be for little orange cones, or something. Perhaps pictures of classes in session. Then you’d at least have a shot at competing in your own contest.
Are you saying that instructing… could… possibly… consume my entire life??
Happened to me! See, I’m even quoting from the Riding Straight video!
