That is one seriously smashed up skull. I think I know what I want for my b-day this year.
I’m still pretty shocked myself. The bottom two are just, ick, too painful to look at. According to the person who posted the images, the patient wasn’t wearing any helmet at all. However, they survived — throwing the whole “oh, if I wreck I’m just going to die anyway so it’s not worth wearing a helmet” argument out the window as well. I don’t even want to know what kind of soft tissue damage occurred. Hope they had good maxillofacial and plastic surgeons.
Speaking of surgeons, I had my wisdom teeth extracted by a maxillofacial surgeon this summer. Turns out he’s the on-call oral and maxillofacial surgeon at the ER for the local hospital too. I’m still kicking myself for not asking him about motorcyclists that have come through his operating room.
Thanks for the reminder. I may upgrade from my half helmets sometime in the future.
