I’m starting to kick around the idea of taking two weeks this summer to ride to the AMA International Women & Motorcycling Conference in Colorado. Obviously, taking two weeks means I can take my sweet time instead of riding 2600 miles of straight slab against a deadline.
Avoiding the interstates will definitely result in a more enjoyable ride, but it also adds complexity to the route planning. So, for the experienced tourers out there, what do you use to plan your trip and find your way while out on the road?

Ms. Stacy: Truth be told I kind of use all three methods when trip planning or during the trip. While still in the planning stages I use the web/mapping software for a rough route and points of interest along the way or at my final destination. Once on the road it is paper road atlas 90% of the time and maybe a check at night with GPS mapping if a plan B may come up. Then there are times where I just say “wonder where this road goes” and head off to find out. If this is done right I need a paper map to find my way back home

Darn it, maybe I should add an “All of the above” option…
