Brad and I have spent the past few days putting some plans into motion. Here’s what we’ve been up to, with apologies to the BARF for ripping off their newbie ride template and Carla King for tipping me off to such things in the first place!
DATE: Saturday, May 9th 2009
TIME: 10am sharp!
MEETING POINT: Creekside Coffee, 5210 SW Philomath Blvd, Corvallis (in the Safeway Shopping Center near Oil Can Henry’s) click for map
END POINT: Premier Motogear, 414 Queen Ave SW, Albany; refreshments will be provided! (Thanks, Premier Motogear!)
WHO: new riders who
- have a valid ODL and motorcycle endorsement
- have 1000 miles of riding experience on the bike you are currently riding
- have very little or no group riding experience
- have very little or no twisties riding experience
We will be riding in groups of 5 or 6 riders (including experienced lead and sweep riders). Depending on the turnout, we may end up with multiple groups, in which case departure times will be staggered.
PACE: 100% newbie. Posted speed limits will be strictly followed in all turns. The lead rider may choose to go even slower if necessary. We expect the ride will take 3 or 4 hours depending on road conditions and the pace chosen by the lead.

Sorry I missed out on this ride, I had to run out of town. Nice to see that http://ridewithgps.com/ is getting some good use. I have some changes waiting to be pushed out, and some new features that I think will be enjoyed by all in the works. Let me know if you have any suggestions! Also, I'll keep my eyes open for your next newbie ride: I have 30k miles of experience, 8k of which are on my current bike. I'd be happy to lead/trail a group.
You haven't missed it… the ride's this weekend.
Oh dang, I thought this happened last weekend! You still need leaders/sweepers?
Actually, I think we might need another lead! We have enough for two groups now.
Can you post up in the thread on PNWRiders? that'll help me keep things organized.
We'd definitely appreciate your help!
