Bear Camp Road

I’m still trying to catch up after this weekend’s trip down to Gold Beach. Here are a few pictures from Bear Camp Road, which runs between Galice and Agness in Southwestern Oregon. This is one awesome road! My chicken strips continue to shrink.

Up on the Peavine, the road comes out into the open and follows the top of a ridge. The 360° view was spectacular. Pictures can’t capture how great this view was.

The weather on Friday was HOT. It had to be near 95° down in the valley and it didn’t get any cooler on Bear Camp Road despite the higher elevations. You know it’s hot when the wind feels like an open oven and doesn’t cool you whatsoever.

Not a soul passed by for the twenty minutes I rested here.

Somewhere around the halfway point on the road, I spotted a flash of green against the hill to the left and decided to stop and take a break in a shady spot. I’d frozen a bottle of water in my hotel mini-fridge the night before and enjoyed some nice ice water while stretching my legs.

The flash of green turned out to be this oasis. I’m assuming this was snowmelt from up the mountain, trickling down underground and coming out here in tiny rivulets of water droplets. The water was ice cold and it felt so good to wash my hands and face!

By this point, I was way behind schedule and had to book it the rest of the way to make it to Gold Beach in time for the grand opening ceremony at the Barnacle Bistro. I rolled into the parking lot with 3 minutes to spare.

Nice pics. I bet the ride was a hoot.

I used to live in Brookings, and now that I think about it, the area has a lot of roads that would be fun to try on a motorcycle. As long as one was careful. I don’t believe that they are the most maintained roads.
