Goals, not resolutions, remember? Here’s a look back at how I did this year. Amazing — it seems like I wrote these only yesterday.
- Goal #1: ride out of state – technically met, if you count a 20 mile excursion into California on a tour of some giant redwoods. Pathetic, I know!
- Goal #2: take a long trip – depends on how one defines the phrase “long trip.” I did take a few 4 day trips this year; one to the Southern Oregon coast, another to BMWRO‘s Chief Joseph Rally, and the last a relaxed trip to central Oregon to celebrate Stacey’s birthday.
- Goal #3: get 10,000 lifetime miles – Success!
- Goal #4: take the Team Oregon ART course – Failed, thanks to an unforgiving schedule. I even registered for the final class of the year — only to have my co-worker call in a favor that caused me to work that day. Drat.
- Goal #5: work toward becoming a Team Oregon instructor – Failed due to bureaucratic red tape. The issue was getting paid — apparently the state government can’t figure out how to pay someone for two different positions at the same employer. I may be able to work this out eventually, but the Econopocalypse is not the time to be rocking the boat with one’s boss, ya know?
2009 was a pretty good year. I rode a bunch more than I did last year, met a lot of great folks in meatspace, and met even more in cyberspace.
My biggest obstacle was time. 40 hours a week in a cube and 2 weeks vacation is not conducive for long-range motorcycle travel, or much of anything really. Nevertheless, I’m thankful to still have a job that pays the bills with enough left over for things like motorcycling.
Bye bye, 2009!

Congrats on hitting 10K Stacy!!
I for one didn’t set any goals for myself last year (loser), but come spring and summer one of my goals is to attempt an IBA BBG… pulling it off is a whole other matter though
Sounds like an ok motorcyle year! Best wishes for the new year!

Sweet! I didn’t meet any of my vague goals for 2009. But, I have more concrete ones awaiting for 2010 on the new GS! Another MSF class is first on the list.
Happy new year!

Becoming an instructor- the stupid thing is the payroll thing you talk about has been solved before- there’s an instructor that used to work for OSU in (IIRC) registration. I know she no longer works at OSU, I don’t know if she’s still active. Let me see if I can hunt her down and ask about it.
