I got the generic black mirrors with built in side markers and they look sweet. I got um on eBay for $25. I can email u a pic if u want. The one thing I have to mention is they sit lower than stock.

I believe modulated brakelights on motorcycles are approved by USDOT, ergo legal in all parts of the US.

The laws around this are asinine- State laws refer to federal standards which in turn refer to SAE documents that aren't available to the general public w/o paying a fee. I know the Oregon coordinator, and (sorry if she's reading this) but she's vague, at best, when I try to get an answer.

@Mike: True enough, but I've been burned by cheap accessories before. I'll have to dig into some of those forum threads to see if there are any long-term reports.

@soth: I wasn't able to find a clear answer regarding flashing brake lights in NY. Your VAT is awfully confusing: http://codes.lp.findlaw.com/nycode/VAT/III/9/375 and http://codes.lp.findlaw.com/nycode/VAT/III/9/381

@Mike: The forward (fork) mounted Hyper-white running lights should be OK in Washington. See http://apps.leg.wa.gov/WAC/default.aspx?cite=204-21-040 and http://apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=46.37

I thought I was done working on my bike for the winter after all the "TLC" updates on my blog... but wouldn't you know it? I've decided to finally hack off my OEM undertail and replace it with something a bit more svelte. Thanks to your recommendation, I ordered up a pair of Hyper Lites to go along with the new undertail (I ordered the flashing running/brake version), I don't know if they're legal here but I assume I'll find out soon enough with this year's NYPD spring blitz :)

Full exhaust is a different beast. But for a slip on to reduce weight and sound better why pay $500+ Delkevic is a great buy. I would put one on mine, but I may be selling it soon.

@cpa3485: Thanks!

@Mike: That Delkevic sounds almost too good to be true. I've been keeping my eye out for low-mount full exhaust systems, but that low, low price almost forces me to consider the Delkevic too.

Have you considered the Delkevic exhaust? People on svrider.com have been raving about them. They are inexpensive. I have been thinking about buying one.

Sounds like you have a little work to do, but hopefully not drudgery.
I have really enjoyed reading about your getting a new (used) bike and your trip home. Glad you found what you wanted.
Take Care and Ride Safe,
Jim
