2010 Mid-Valley Newbie Ride: Success!

by Stacy on May 17, 2010

It seems I’ve created a monster.

Long-time readers may recall last year’s newbie ride, which was inspired by a similar event put together by the Bay Area Riders Forum. Last year’s ride was such a success that I figured we ought to do it again this year. And so we did. But instead of 14 riders, we had over 30.

We ended up with four groups: one group of experienced riders who just wanted to tag along and ride the route and three groups of newbies (faster, medium, and slower). Each of the newbie groups had an experienced lead and sweep, and we ended up with groups of around 8 riders. Perfect!

I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the intrepid crew of volunteer leads/sweeps who made this ride possible: Bravura (aka Troubadour), 10guy, thesomberlainv70, R1Jackal, Rick and wileycoyote. Thank you!

I was a little too busy to take pictures before all the groups departed, but I did snap a couple of shots during our lunch stop. We pretty much took over the entire parking lot at the Monmouth Burgerville!

Methinks that if we do this again next year, we might need a bigger parking lot…

Congratulations to you and the others who helped organize and lead the ride. I don’t know how you manage to keep track of that many riders especially if people jump in and out of the group during the ride.
